Hello! I am a retired medical doctor now offering Somatic Therapy for people with anxiety, low mood or past trauma.

My work is informed by the latest neuroscience research on how best to resolve the effects of difficult events on the mind, body and nervous system. I am available to work with individuals online, and small groups in person in Kapiti.

When I worked as a GP in the West Highlands of Scotland, we provided a full range of services, from care during pregnancy and birth right through to end of life care at home. Practicing in such a remote setting involved being a first responder at emergencies, and making house visits by boat. I moved to New Zealand in 2008 and worked in General Practice, Student Health and for a Māori health care provider, before transitioning to my new role as a Somatic Therapist in 2020.

Continuing my long-held interest in holistic health and wellbeing, I completed the three year Somatic Experiencing® training in 2021, Neuroaffective Touch™ in 2022 and Deep Brain Reorienting™ with Dr Frank Corrigan in 2024.  I have also completed part 1 of Diane Poole-Heller’s DARe™ attachment training.

With 20 years experience of teaching simple embodiment skills, I have also explored mind-body connection through 5Rhythms® conscious dance, (qualified teacher 2008) Bio-energy therapy, (Diploma course 2003) and the practice of Yoga, meditation and QiGong.

I am now based in Kapiti Coast, providing care online to people all over New Zealand who are troubled by symptoms of anxiety or the effects of difficult past experience including PTSD.  I am also happy to see those who just want to become more embodied. There is so much to learn and explore about being human!

As I am now retired from medical practice, I can no longer give medical services such as writing prescriptions, and I work in a way that is complementary to, and supportive of, mainstream medical practice.

Terms of Use for seaoteroa.co.nz Practitioner Directory

seatotearoa.co.nz offers a Practitioner Directory designed to help you find practitioners who include Somatic Experiencing in their therapeutic, coaching, or counselling services. All practitioners listed here have completed at least the first year of Somatic Experiencing training (Beginning year modules).

PLEASE NOTE:
The main purpose of this Practitioner Directory is to help you connect with Somatic Experiencing practitioners. All practitioners listed here have training in Somatic Experiencing. Many also bring other skills and approaches to their work, which they may choose to share in their listing. Each practitioner is responsible for the information they provide about their training, qualifications, certifications, and opinions, whether in their directory listing or on their website. We do not verify insurance, professional memberships, or qualifications in other modalities.

This directory is a paid listing service and does not include every SEP or SE student in Aotearoa, as participation is optional. It is intended as a helpful starting point for finding Somatic Experiencing practitioners.
